Claude skills : your own AI tools.

Claude can draft, summarize, analyze. With a custom skill, it does it exactly the way you want, every single time, without you having to rephrase.

Track level

A Claude skill turns general-purpose AI into a specialized tool. Instead of restating your need in every conversation, you codify your instructions once : the domain context, the expected output format, the ethical constraints, the sources to favor, the mistakes to avoid. Claude applies these rules automatically, every time.

For a lawyer, the difference is concrete. A well-written skill turns Claude into an assistant that knows your field, your way of working and your quality standards. Drafting employment-law submissions with the relevant collective agreements. Analyzing commercial contracts according to your usual reading grid. Preparing road-criminal-law consultations with your court of appeal's case law. The skill doesn't replace your expertise. It replicates it inside the tool.

This track teaches you to create, test, refine and share your own skills. From discovering Claude Cowork through to deploying a working skill you use every day.

The program

From discovery to a shared skill

One framing video, two technical resources, four hands-on exercises.

01
Video

(Re)watch the introduction to Claude Cowork

The starting point. Claude Cowork is Anthropic's work environment that lets you use Claude with files, projects and custom skills. This video covers the ins and outs of the tool : what it does, what it doesn't, how it fits into a legal workflow.

02
Resource

Understand Claude skills

A skill is built on a SKILL.md file : a structured text document that holds the permanent instructions given to Claude. This resource breaks down the anatomy of a skill, best practices for writing one, and concrete examples tailored to legal practice.

Key difference : a prompt is disposable, a skill is permanent, reusable, shareable. For a firm, the value is measured in time saved on rephrasing and in the consistent quality of outputs.

03
Exercise

Exercise: choose your use case

Before writing a skill, you need to identify the right use case. Which process do you repeat several times a week ? Which task takes time even though the method is always the same ? Which analysis could be sped up if Claude already knew your reading grid ?

This exercise guides you in choosing a precise, realistic, high-impact use case. A skill that's too broad will be mediocre. A skill that's too narrow will be useless. The goal is to find the right scope.

04
Exercise

Exercise: write the SKILL.md

Writing the instructions file. You structure Claude's role, the domain context, the processing guidelines, the output format, the constraints and the guardrails. Every section of the SKILL.md has a direct impact on the quality of the answers.

Writing a legal skill involves specific choices : should you embed code articles as references ? Document templates ? Instructions to systematically verify sources ? Confidentiality constraints ? Everything comes down to the precision of the instructions.

05
Exercise

Exercise: test the skill locally

Your skill exists on paper. Now you need to make sure it works. You load the SKILL.md into Claude Cowork and confront it with real cases drawn from your practice. The first outputs reveal the imprecisions, ambiguities and gaps in your instructions.

Testing a skill goes beyond checking that it "works". The point is to verify that the output matches exactly what you expect, with the rigor you demand of a colleague.

06
Exercise

Exercise: refine the instructions

Iteration. Test results feed corrections : clarifying a guideline, adding an example, rephrasing a constraint. A good skill is built over several passes. This step formalizes the improvement process and gives you a repeatable method for any future skill.

07
Resource

Share your skill

A skill that works for you can serve others. This step covers :

  • Sharing within a firm (standardizing practices across colleagues)
  • Publishing in the Zevra Campus community
  • Intellectual property questions tied to skills

Concrete examples

Four high-impact legal skills

Each saves several hours a week when it's well built. To give you a sense of the scope.

Commercial contract analysis

Claude reads the contract, identifies the at-risk clauses according to your grid (liability limitation, intellectual property, termination, penalties), and produces a structured note with recommendations.

Consultation preparation

You enter the facts, Claude identifies the applicable texts, the relevant case law, the arguments for and against, and produces a structured answer outline.

Drafting standard submissions

From a document template you provide, Claude adapts the structure to each new matter, respecting your style, your plan and your usual phrasings.

Sector monitoring

Claude synthesizes the week's legislative and case-law developments in your field, according to the format and level of detail you have defined.

Who it's for

The right track if…

You already use Claude

Several times a week, and you restate the same instructions in every conversation. The skill puts an end to that wasted time and guarantees consistent outputs.

Structured firm

You want to standardize AI usage across colleagues. A shared skill guarantees consistent outputs whoever the user is.

Legal department

You're looking to give teams framed AI tools that respect your internal constraints (confidentiality, sources, format).

Recommended prerequisite : having completed "AI Fundamentals" or equivalent. Familiarity with Claude (free or Pro) is required.
