Blockchain-backed fantasy sports platform that lets players build teams from official digital cards of professional athletes. Co-founded in 2018 in Paris by Nicolas Julia and Adrien Montfort, who met at Stratum, a company specializing in blockchain, Sorare covers football, the NBA and MLB through official licenses from more than 300 clubs and leagues around the world. The real-world performances of athletes in official matches determine the ranking of virtual teams. The company closed a landmark $680 million funding round in September 2021 led by SoftBank, the largest funding round in French Tech history at the time, valuing the company at $4.3 billion. Other major investors such as Atomico, Benchmark, Accel, Partech and Eurazeo took part in the various rounds, alongside angel investors like Alexis Ohanian (Reddit co-founder) and footballers like Gerard Pique and Antoine Griezmann. In 2025, the platform migrated its entire infrastructure from Ethereum to Solana to benefit from higher throughput and near-instant transaction finality. Sorare now claims 5 million registered users worldwide. In France, the National Gaming Authority (ANJ) established a three-year experimental period (2024-2027) to evaluate digital gaming models such as Sorare's. $680M raised, $4.3B valuation, 5 million registered users, 300+ licensed clubs, migration to Solana in 2025
