Justice & Mediation operates within the framework of France's 2019 justice reform, which made attempting an amicable settlement mandatory for disputes below 5,000 euros. The service offers an alternative to traditional court proceedings by connecting parties in conflict with neutral and impartial mediators trained in conflict-resolution techniques. Mediation, a voluntary and confidential process, allows the parties to reach a negotiated agreement with the help of a professional third party, without going to court. This resolution method applies to common civil disputes: neighbour disputes, tenancy disagreements, and commercial and family conflicts. The creation of the National Mediation Council in 2023, bringing together mediators, mediation associations, courts and public authorities, reflects the growing structuring of the sector in France. In 2024, the French Ministry of Justice made amicable justice one of the flagship measures of its action plan, rolling out platforms connecting people with conciliators and mediators within the jurisdictions of the Colmar and Versailles courts of appeal.
