Overview

Rental guarantee and unpaid-rent insurance service now integrated into Luko (Allianz Direct) following its acquisition in March 2022. Co-founded in 2019 by Matthieu Luneau, Cedric Baulme and Charles-Andre Richard, Unkle developed an insurance product that guarantees rent payments for tenants who lack a traditional guarantor, as well as unpaid-rent insurance (GLI) for landlords. The startup experienced explosive growth (a 10x increase since 2020) and raised a total of 11 million euros: 1 million euros in seed funding in 2019, then 10 million euros in January 2022. The offering covers unpaid rent, legal fees and property damage, with compensation starting from the very first missed payment. Unkle built a network of more than 800 partner real estate agencies and counts over 20,000 clients. The acquisition by Luko made it possible to roll out Luko's contract and claims management tools across Unkle's products. Matthieu Luneau and Cedric Baulme continue to lead Unkle as a separate business unit within the Luko group. Unkle's mission is to make housing more accessible by acting as a guarantor for tenants who do not have a traditional guarantor, a major hurdle in the French rental market. 11M EUR raised, 20,000+ clients, 800+ partner agencies, 10x growth since 2020, acquired by Luko in March 2022
